Ensuring a sustainable, healthy, and safe environment within the Education Sector in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi

Introduction

ADEC EHS Section provides services which facilitate, monitor and maintain sustainable, healthy and safe education environments for staff, students, educators and administrators.

These services aim to enable ADEC to meet its objectives and obligations as the Education Sector EHS Management System Regulatory Authority in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.

EHS Section goals are set to ensure the successful implementation of Education Sector EHS Management System Requirements, the promotion of EHS culture and awareness to achieve this.

 ABOUT US

ADEC EHS Section was established in August 2010 to develop and implement an Environment, Health & Safety Management System (EHSMS)in ADEC operations and activities in compliance with Abu Dhabi EHS Management System Regulatory Framework.

ADEC’s EHSMS was approved by Abu Dhabi EHS Center and officially launched by ADEC in April 2011.

Implementation of ADEC EHSMS began soon after and its scope covers ADEC operations, activities and facilities within the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.

ADEC achieved both ISO 14001 & OHSAS 18001Certificationsin December 2011 for the successful implementation of the system in compliance with international standards.

In addition, as the assigned Regulatory Authority for the Education Sector, ADEC EHS Section developed the Education Sector EHSMS Requirements which are an integral part of the new Abu Dhabi EHSMS Regulatory Framework (V2, 2012).

The Education Sector EHSMS Requirements were officially launched in March 2012 for Education Sector entities (Nurseries, Schools, Colleges and Universities). The process of school registration and EHSMS development began as phase 1 in March 2012. Phase 2 which includes nurseries, colleges and universities, is planned to commence in March 2013.

Implementation of schools’ EHS Management Systems is expected to begin in September 2013, other Entities will follow as soon as their systems are submitted and approved.
